Vikki GrimmFree Mars webcomic miniature, completed May 2013
It was [a very long time ago] when Dave Pauwels first showed me the initial concept sketches Nic had done for Dave's Free Mars story. Dave's enthusiasm is generally quite infectious, and I immediately knew I wanted to be even a small part of the Free Mars project. Despite having only one full sculpt under my belt at the time, Dave was very supportive of my desire to work on these figures.
I put Vikki's sculpt off until the last of the Sisters Grimm trio because I was unsure of how best to pose her and even less sure of how I'd sculpt her wild hair. As the titular character of a webcomic about a revolutionary band in space, I felt it was important to give Vikki an actual musical instrument, even though I hadn’t done so with her more combatively portrayed band-mates. As with so many other projects in recent years, I fell back on the advice of fellow hobbyists who helped me refine my rough sketches into this final result - one that I think has a very "rock and roll revolutionary" feel.
As with Sam and Vexx, the painted example in the gallery above is by Jennifer Haley. She’d done such a brilliant job with the first Sisters Grimm model that we simply had to ask her to do the whole band. My sluggish sculpting schedule slightly endangered that idea though, since I finished this last member of the trio as Jen was changing jobs and eliminating commission work from her schedule. Thankfully, she made room for us and I think you’ll agree the three together look even better than any of the girls alone.
Both resin and metal castings of this model are available in the Full Borer Store.
